Error made on an order I placed yesterday
I wanted to correct an error made on order I placed yesterday, before it shipped out. I tried calling 5 different phone numbers, but never reached anyone to speak with.
The only message I heard was there was high call volume, but if I wanted to stay on the line... Which I was willing to do except my call automatically switched to their corporate office phone number, intended for wholesale business & applying for a job !
This was hardly the way a company should treat a new customer.
If Wayside Gardens didnt have any customer service agents available on the Saturday before Easter, there should have been messages to that effect on each of their 5 different business phone numbers for customer service. This was very unprofessional, especially on the phone number which indicated the phone lines were very busy, but you could wait on the phone for a customer service agent to speak with.

Verified ReviewerSent the wrong tree whip. Unaccountable.
I ordered a Vulcan magnolia whip years ago. Bright pink dwarf ornamental meant to be a specimen, I planted it close to the house in a protected microclimate pocket where it stood to fill up a very key view from multiple windows in our largest and most social room.
The perfect space to highlight its beauty.
Except, they sent a big leaf magnolia. Which is wholly unsuitable to the space and which now needs to be either excavated and transplanted or have its roots worked on with a barrier to our foundation of the 1880 house it is far too close to. Either will be niche professional work and very expensive.
Wayside refused to acknowledge I was ever their customer, no matter how much documentation of the sale I sent them until I finally came up with the idea of replying to the original invoice emails to prove their authenticity. That was a red flag.
They are holding to their claim that I had to report the tree was incorrect within the first year, when doing so was literally impossible as it wasnt mature enough to even bloom the wrong color and give me a clue in time period. I figured I had planted it without enough direct light which was causing it to grow taller and not bloom. The past two years it has doubled in size and bloomed for the first time, this yearscantily, and only at the top. White.
They have begrudgingly admitted its probably a Bigleaf magnolia.
I am sure it is stressed from its recent fast growth, as I have been limbing it up. There isnt enough room for its root system in a root zone pattern because it is sandwiched between a sidewalk and my foundation. It now has magnolia scale that I cannot even reach to treat. It is pouring honeydew.
This is the only tree I have with scale. I have four mature magnolias.
This tree would cost a fortune to excavate and transplant given its location. I would be amenable to that or even to a specialist pruning its root system so that it is blocked from my foundation.
Either should be a simple insurance claim for the parent company. If it isnt, they have no business selling trees of consequence.

Verified ReviewerSent wrong tree; May have damaged house
I bought a Vulcan magnolia years ago. It is a dwarf, not meant to grow higher than 15, max.
Its now twice that and probably in my foundation.
Trying to get them to identify the tree was delayed by their insistence I was never a customer and they had no record of any sale to me. I gave them all of the order numbers. They denied the sale. Finally I started to hit reply on the original invoices to prove the origin was their email address.
Then they told me I failed to report it in the first year. When it was still a whip. I had thought the tree was growing taller and not blooming because of the protected location I had installed it in.
If I have to excavate/deinstall and transplant to an appropriate area by myself ito assess whether its in the foundation, Ill have to break up softscape and hard scape and it will cost around $8,000 in MA.
If there is no damage to house.
This should be a simple issue for their insurance to clean up: send an adjuster, identify what they sent instead of what I ordered, and carefully pull up tiles in the center walk to excavate and prune roots/installing a barrier so they do not invade my foundation. That is a reasonable ask.
I am not seeking damages or asking them to excavate and move the tree, which is what I would prefer, but I understand it would be very expensive.
I have explained this and have no response from management.
They obviously want me to involve my home insurance or a lawyer which will only add to the costs. This company is unaccountable and unreasonable and have created a major problem for my garden installation which is now surrounded by mature specimens.
Preferred solution: Stated remediation: extraction and transplant to appropriate spot, assessment of foundation, restoration of softscape and hard scape that will need to be deinstalled in process. Professionally by bonded company.
User's recommendation: Do not trust them
